Situation

Praid, on the western side of Harghita county, is situated 38 km from Odorheiu Secuiesc and 6 km from Sovata. The main attraction of the region is the salt mine which has been known since the Roman period. The pension is located in the centre of the city, 150 meters from the salt mine and 200 meters from a salt water swimming pool. In the pension's backyard there is a garage for guests. The backyard is bordered by a creek.
Due to the extensive salt mining over many, many years (since 1762), large underground halls have been formed, where a unique salt-mine micro-climate has been created, with relatively constant temperatures (between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius), low humidity (66-70%) and greater pressure than on the surface (735-738 mmHg on average), and a highly ionized air.
Today the salt mine, besides the exploitation of salt, is a place of medical treatment. The underground halls (level 50) lie at a depth of 120 meters from the surface. The treatment consists of the inhalation of air from the mine for 4 hours daily, this being very beneficial for diseases of the respiratory apparatus (asthma, bronchitis and allergies). Visitors are transported a distance of 1250 meters by bus.
The salt mine provides the following attractions: illuminated underground halls, Internet access, playgrounds for children, buffet and shops, museum and art exhibition, billiards tables, table tennis tables, other sports activities including badminton, medical gymnastics and an ecumenical chapel - all specially created for your relaxation. Furthermore, it is open year round.
In Praid there is a salt water swimming pool whose salt content is very high. Besides this open-air swimming pool, visitors may also enjoy the beneficial effect of the indoor salt water spas, very helpful for rheuma treatment. The beneficial effect of the salt bath may be felt on the whole body. It is healing, calming, physically and psychically relaxing, as well as antiseptic and sterilizing. A single bath lasts from 10 minutes up to 30 minutes, depending on the individual. The temperature of the salt water is 36 degrees Celsius. A treatment consists of 10-14 warm baths without interruption. The salt baths operate between the 1st of June and the 1st of October.
The Bucin mountain peak is 10 km away. Here you will find some ski slopes which are open during the winter. There are other ski slopes near Sovata, aproximately 20 km away.

 

Interior

This pension has 19 rooms: 10 furnished with two single beds and 9 with king size beds.
Every room has a TV, fridge, bathroom, wardrobe, coffee table and chairs.
The pension also has a reception area, lobby and restaurant.

Surroundings
The Hill of Salt is called "salt back" by the local people (the highest point - 576m). It covers the largest salt body in the country. Its roots lie buried at a depth of 2.7 – 3 km, and there is estimated to be about 3 billion tons of salt here.
This salt settlement is one of the biggest in Europe. Its reserve could provide Europe with salt for hundreds of year into the future. The salt from the Transylvania Basin, as well as that from Praid, is very old- something like 20 - 22 million years.
From Praid you can make excursions to many destinations like Odorheiu secuiesc, the mothertown of Seklers (Székely); Corund, famous for its traditional pottery; the reservoir lake in Zetea; Sighisoara, the castle of Dracula; Killer lake; the Bicaz gorges; Tusnad Spa; St. Anna Lake; and Balea Lake in Transfagaras.
One of the most important destinations may be the balneal and climatic spa of Sovata (6 km away) which is open year round. Here you will find Lake Ursu (Bear Lake) which is a heliothermic lake (very good for swimming). It is the only one of it`s kind in Europe and the largest in the world. The salt water is warmed by heliothermic effect, which provides different temperatures at different depths (19-20C on the surface, 30-40C at 1 m depth, 40-60 C at 1,5-2 m depths). The salt content is 40-250 g/l. It's waters and sapropelic mud are famous for their healing properties. Reputedly, they have been successful in the treatment of rheumatic and gynecological diseases (such as sterility).
Treatments for body and soul, year round - in summer bathe in salt water; take an excursion into the natural surroundings to visit lakes and mountains of salt; walk in the medium of nature; or practice the sports of summer (tennis, cycling, etc).
In winter, there is plenty of opportunity to practice winter sports such as skiing. Most ski runs are equipped with ski-lifts.
Praid is surrounded by mountain springs, steep rocks and beautiful forests which provide you with the opportunity for an unforgettable holiday!
