Urlaub in der Bretagne
Wie ein großer Daumen ragt die Halbinsel Bretagne in den Atlantik hinein. Die Region im Westen von Frankreich umfasst 4 Départements: Ile-et-Vilaine, Côtes d’Amor, Finistère und Morbihan. Ihre Hauptstädte sind Rennes und Nantes (historisch). Auf einer Fläche von 27.208 Quadratkilometern leben 3,08 Millionen Bretonen. Ihre Küste wurde seit jeher vom Meer geformt und besteht weitgehend aus Fjorden, urige Steilküsten und gemütliche Sandstränden. Die Gallier nannten die Bretagne deswegen auch „Arenorica“, was soviel heißt wie „Land am Meer“.
Während der Küstenstreifen der Bretagne dem Urlauber meist zerklüftet und urwüchsig erscheint, weist die bretonische Landschaft in erster Linie Äcker und Weideflächen auf, welche schachbrettartig durch Steinmauern und Hecken aufgeteilt sind. Die Ursache für dieses Landschaftsbild liegt in den Rodungen aus der Zeit des Mittelalters.
