Urlaub in der Champagne
Die Champagne liegt im Norden von Frankreich. Sie erstreckt sich von der Ile-de-France bis hin zur Meuse (Maas) und grenzt an die Picardie, an Burgund, Franche-Comté und Lothringen. Auf einer Gesamtfläche von 25.600 Quadratkilometern erleben Sie eine malerische Landschaft, die aus weiten, sattgrünen Weideflächen, flaches Gebirge und sonnenbegünstigte Hanglagen besteht. Neben ihrer Landeshauptstadt Châlon-en-Champagne sind ihre wichtigsten Städte Reynel, Troyes und Prauthoy. Aber auch die historischen Städte Reims und Épernay, die maßgeblich den Namen der Region mitgestaltet haben, erfreuen ihre Besucher durch interessante, wechselhafte Geschichte, interessante Sakralbaukunst und ihren weltberühmten Champagne.
Ihren Namen „Champagne“ geht weitgehend auf die Landschaft zurück und stammt vom lateinischen Wort „campania“. Es bedeutet soviel wie „flaches, bebautes Land“, so dass die Bewohner der Region die kleinste Erhöhung in der Landschaft als Berg bezeichnen.
