Umbrien – das „Grüne Herz Italiens“
Zwischen den Regionen der Toskana, Marken, Abruzzen und Latium liegt „das grüne Herz Italiens“ – Umbrien. Die Region besticht durch ihre einzigartige Natur der Valle Umbra zwischen Perugia, der Hauptstadt Umbriens, und Spoleto. Sie zeigt sich in Form von ausgedehnten Bergrücken, Beckenlandschaften und Tälern, wobei die bergige Landschaft auch in Gebirgszüge ausufern kann. Ihre höchste geographische Erhebung erfährt Umbrien mit 2.478 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel im Monte Vettore des Umbrischen Appennins.
Umbrien ist eine landschaftlich reizende Gegend, deren Gesamtfläche sich auf 8.456 Quadratkilometer beläuft. Rund 865 Tausende Einwohner leben in dieser Region, die versuchen, den ursprünglichen Charme Umbriens zu bewahren. Vor allem der Quellsee des Flusses Clitunno gehört wohl mit zu den beeindruckendsten Gewässern. Denn nicht nur Vergil und Goethe ließen sich von dessen Antlitz inspirieren, zumal an dessen Ufern die berühmten weißen Stiere weideten.
